Overview

The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. the extraordinary volcanic landscape of Ngorongoro is rich and fertile – and home to the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa. From its rim, it drops 600m to the crater floor, where wildlife includes black rhino, hippo and a large lion population. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth.
